Key Leader in Grand Cayman

Key Leader held its fourth Key Leader at St. Ignatius School on Grand Cayman Island, October 22-24, 2010.  One participant said that she enjoyed “meeting new people with similar interests and learning about leading.”

The program in Cayman Islands is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman as one of their major outreach programs each year.  The program is taught in English, but is different than other events in North America because the Cayman Islands are comprised of three separate islands—two of them with a sizeable population.  Together the islands are a part of the British West Indies!  Students from Cayman Brac fly into Grand Cayman for the Key Leader event.  In order to support this expense, plus the cost of the weekend, the Kiwanis club works with the local business community to raise sponsorships for underwrite the entire event.  Every student is asked to pay a small registration fee to increase each family’s support and commitment to the program.

Members of the local club work hard in the marketing and logistics of the event, just like other Key Leader weekends.  The difference here again is that the one club does it all!!  In addition, they conduct the challenge course activities on Saturday afternoon of the event.  Local club members are being trained in the Key Leader curriculum to conduct future events.

Students have enthusiastically supported Key Leader during these last four years, many of them are also active Key Club members.  “I like doing the activities and meeting new friends, and also hanging around in groups with friends.”
